Re: Best Rohan Bargain in Rohan Sale
I got my mother in law a nice raspberry windproof fleece jacket, and myself a pair of Ultimate Cargo trousers. Not the best bargain (a measely 25% off), but I thought I'd give them a go. I have some of the 'penultimate' cargos, and love them to bits, even if you were inspired by 'potato sacks' when you created them! I resisted the new ones as a protest for a long time, but the discount eventually wore me down. They arrived promptly and I have to say I'm impressed so far. So many big pockets taking up so little space is quite an achievement, and the fit is very comfy, leg length a perfect 33. Maybe not the biggest bargain, but I'm sure they'll turn out to be value for money.

I got a Goa smock top at 50% off. I can't wait for it to arrive. That and the epic bags, the cargo shorts. Santa is still busy!

Re: Best Rohan Bargain in Rohan Sale
Ordered a Walker shirt and EPIC Pampas jacket on Monday, received them yesterday! That's quicker than normal, despite the sale. Sadly, I had to rein in my enthusiasm/credit card and not order the EPIC Bags. The Pampas is really superb, precisely the sort of coat I've been looking for lately and considerably lighter than I expected from a cotton garment.

Re: Best Rohan Bargain in Rohan Sale
My goodies arrived today, which considering my first attempt to pay failed due to my credit card company, which prompted Rohan to phone me, on my old number, which they followed by finding my new number, taking payment at 5 in the afternoon, and getting it to me today. Awesome kit, but the service is a cut above that. Two reasons I keep coming back!

Re: Best Rohan Bargain in Rohan Sale
My new Goa smock arrived yesterday, a very creditable 2 days after ordering. Just given it its first spin with a pleasant yomp around the local woods on the cross country skis, fine for that today over just a thin base layer. I've a couple of the original ones, and I think the cut of the new is better with a little extra length and a slight drop tail. Fabric's not quite so nice a feel, but I suspect it's lighter. Pockets are good and not really anything against, though as suggested elsewhere the cuffs on the original Moving On take a lot of beating because they let a full sleeve-roll with no constriction.
So for half price I'm very happy with it! Also got a Worldwide shirt, which will come out when I'm back at work next week...
Pete.

Re: Best Rohan Bargain in Rohan Sale
I have not bought anything from the sales as i am good for cloths just now.
If i could get some feedback from the poster Strider on his Ultimate Cargo's.
Q; how do you find the pockets with them on the front of the legs rather than hanging loose at the side. I'm thinking that keys/money would rub the skin as you walk and a map would also rub and be uncomfortable in its size !.
Thanks for any thoughts.
My Best Wishes for a Healthy and happy 2010 to all at Rohan and fellow posters on this board.

Re: Best Rohan Bargain in Rohan Sale
Hi Kenny, I have to confess I haven't field tested the map pocket yet - still, just, under the influence of Christmas... Re: keys etc., I've found a surprise little internal pocket inside the left lower leg pocket, ideal for stopping a mobile phone, or keys maybe, from rattling around too much in the bigger pocket and rubbing on the leg. I think this is an improvement, as I had to bend down to reach my phone/keys at the bottom of the pocket in the old cargos! But true, they never rubbed.
Of course there are still the usual upper leg pockets, the right hand one of which has an internal zipped pocket which I use for keeping change in (as in all my Rohan trousers). So I'd say money and mobile are well taken care of, just need to find a spot for the keys. Finally there are the two rear zipped pockets.
In the interest of science, I now have an OS map in my pants, and am fumbling with a set of keys... i'll let you know tomorrow eve how i get on if that's ok, just wanted you to know that I'm on the case...
Regards Andy

Re: Best Rohan Bargain in Rohan Sale
Hi Kenny, test over and here's what I think. First, the keys:
Was concerned before i tried it, but i've had my keys (car, house, chubb and two more on two connected rings) in the left lower pocket all day and all but forgotten they were there. I found they were best when kept round the side, so bottom left as you look down. Things placed to the front of the leg (right of the pocket) move around more and you can feel them more as a result. Very happy though that my phone (in the inner slip pocket) and my keys, can co-exist in the same pocket comfortably without a second thought.
The map pocket on the right leg was similar in that I found as long as I keep the map round to the side of the leg, it was very comfortable. The pocket extends right round to the side leg seam (it's actually huge), so you can easily park your map down the side there and it sits quite happily, if you look at the photo of the trousers in the online catalogue, the map would only come half-way across from the left, so there's plenty of room. I folded the map 'funny' for the test to make a more realistic bulge, but when I positioned it to follow the angled contour of the pocket, coming over the top/front of the leg (to the right of the pocket as you look at the picture), it did move around a lot more and wasn't as comfy, rubbing (well, wiping) as you suggested it might - especially when going up stairs (read 'mountains') when your trousers ride up a bit due to knee lift - but it's really not a problem as in practice you just won't put it there. I'd rather fill that bit of the pocket with other things like maybe a Buff, gloves or similar softer or smaller items. there's plenty of room for the map and more besides, so you shouldn't be concerned about it at all. The pocket isn't so leg-hugging that it's tight, and to prove it I had TWO OS maps in there for a spell and it felt just as comfortable and the zip closed with ease.
They work for me Andy
